Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. Announces Financial Results for the Period Ended June 30, 2007 Record $73 Million Backlog Reflects Continued; Strong Flat Panel Display Demand

EXTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISSC) today announced results for the third quarter and nine months ended June 30, 2007.

For the third quarter of fiscal 2007, the Company reported revenues of $5.8 million. Product revenue was up $1.1 million or 40% from a year ago while Engineering, Modification and Development (EMD) revenue increased $1.7 million year over year. On a sequential basis, Product revenue was up $0.8 million or 26% from the 2nd quarter of this fiscal year while EMD revenue increased by $1.1 million or more than 100% from the 2nd quarter. For the quarter, the Company reported a net loss of $(1.35) million or $(0.08) per fully diluted share. Third quarter results reflect continued significant investment in Engineering, Research and Development on mostly Flat Panel Display System programs that, on a combined cost basis, totaled $2.8 million or 48% of revenue. Third quarter results also included approximately $1.7 million in legal fees incurred protecting Intellectual Property.

Record Backlog

Total backlog at June 30, 2007 was an all time record $73 million, including $65 million for Flat Panel Display systems.

Ray Wilson, Chief Executive Officer Designate of Innovative Solutions and Support, Inc., commented, “During the third quarter we made progress in all our key metrics. Our new agreement to retrofit the American Airlines fleet of B757 and B767 aircraft with our Flat Panel Display Systems contributed to a $30 million jump in backlog over the prior quarter. This award also represented the breakthrough in the airline market we have pursued, while adding another world-class commercial customer to complement our agreements with Eclipse Aviation, Cessna and others.”

New Flat Panel orders in the 3rd quarter ended June 30, 2007 totaled $35 million. As a result, backlog at June 30, 2007 was an all time record of $73 million. This was an increase of $39 million or 115% over the June 30, 2006 backlog of $34 million. The Flat Panel portion of backlog was $65 million this year, an increase of $43 million or almost 200% from the $22 million recorded at June 30, 2006.

Year-To-Date Results

Revenues for the first nine months of 2007 rose 9% to $13.2 million compared with revenues of $12.1 million in the nine months ended June 30, 2006. The Company incurred a net loss of $(4.8) million, or $(0.29) per fully diluted share in the nine months ended June 30, 2007. Included in the Company’s results for the first nine months of fiscal 2007 are approximately $4.5 million in legal fees incurred protecting its Intellectual Property. For the comparable 2006 year-to-date period, the Company reported a net loss of $(1.9) million or $(0.11) per fully diluted share. Engineering, Research and Development (R&D), spending in the nine month period amounted to a combined cost of $6.6 million or 50% of revenue.

Mr. Ptakowski added, “In addition to the strength of our order book, we start the fourth quarter in a strong financial position with about $57 million in cash. IS&S Chosen by USAF to Replace A-10 Central Air Data Computers

The United States Air Force, Tinker Air Force Base, OK, has selected Innovative Solutions and Support (IS&S) to replace the central air data computers (CADCs) in its fleet of A-10 “Warthog” aircraft. All USAF A-10 aircraft (approximately 370 a/c) will be upgraded with form fit and function Central Air Data Computer (CADCs) using high stability sensors and state of the art surface mount electronics that greatly increase system reliability, and enhance mission preparedness. IS&S has previously designed and developed a Solid State Barometric Altimeter (SSBA) for the A-10 and other military aircraft.

The A-10 is a twin engine, low altitude ground attack aircraft used in a close air support mission. Because of its design and mission, the avionics products are called upon to withstand extremely high vibration, shock and High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) levels.

In a statement made today a company spokesperson said that being selected by the USAF for this “critical mission aircraft” requirement was rewarding and that it provided the company with an opportunity to support the country’s defense efforts. In the past, IS&S has successfully completed military air data upgrades on several airplanes, including C-130, KC-135, F-16 and F-5’s. Delivery of A-10 Central Air Data Computers will begin in the 3rd quarter of 2003.

IS&S to Build Replacement for Rockwell Collins Air Data Controller

This installation will take place over the next two years and for each aircraft will include the following new instrumentation: two digital air data computers, two altimeters, and an altitude alerter. Pan Am has also decided to upgrade its mach airspeed indicators to standardize its fleet with modern, higher reliability IS&S units. Air Canada Awards IS&S Contract to Upgrade Three 737s to DRVSM

IS&S to Develop Replacement for Obsolete Air Data Controller

First Air Selects IS&S for RVSM Program

Innovative Solutions and Support (IS&S), the Malvern, PA, USA-based supplier of cockpit data systems, has been selected by First Air, Ottawa, Canada, to supply turnkey services for an RVSM update on their 727 fleet. IS&S will provide the air data equipment, installation and RVSM certifications. The contract also includes an option for the carrier’s 737 fleet.

The balance of Canadian airspace will become RVSM active in the 2004/2005 time frame, in coordination with US Domestic airspace. First Air, IS&S's first Canadian customer, joins a growing list of operators who have selected the IS&S altimetry equipment as their RVSM solution.

Under RVSM, between FL290 and FL410, vertical separation will be reduced from 2,000 ft to 1,000 ft. To comply with RVSM regulations, operators must prove to regulators that the altimetry systems of the aircraft meets accuracy, stability and redundancy requirements.

IS&S Receives STC for RVSM Retrofit of B727-100/-200

On June 19, 2001, Innovative Solutions and Support (IS&S), together with Aircraft Systems and Manufacturing Inc. (ASM), received FAA ST09887SC for installation of a dual IS&S Digital Air Data Computer (DADC) system on B727-100 and -200 aircraft, following a flawless installation and test flight. This Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) certifies the DADC components of the Malvern, PA-based supplier of cockpit data systems to the accuracy requirements for reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) operation and provides the needed approval for installation of IS&S RVSM compliant equipment on these aircraft. With over 1,500 RVSM systems in service, this equipment makes an ideal replacement for obsolete DADC and altimetry equipment. Other qualifications for IS&S DADCs include: TSO-C106; environment RTCA DO-160D; and software RTCA-DO-178B Level A.

The architecture of the IS&S RVSM system for 727 aircraft consists of dual digital air data computers that operate two repeater altimeters, and a common altitude alerter. Computed air data and operational outputs are formatted to be compatible with the aircraft's receiving instrumentation. Altitude alerts are both audible and visual, with an output provided for a discrete Sonalert. A secondary numeric readout displays either static air temperature or cabin altitude, with an alert if the latter exceeds 10,000 feet.

The all electronic altimeters receive coarse and fine synchro pressure altitude inputs from the DADCs, correct this data for the local altitude setting number, and display baro-corrected altitude. A signal is sent to the altitude alerter. Baro correction is sent from the altimeter to the DADC. The altitude alerter provides two user-selectable operating modes. Altitude alerting mode annunciates approach to, or departure from, a user-selected altitude. Minimum descent altitude (MDA) mode alerts of approach to a user-selected minimum altitude. The DADCs receive, process, compute, and output various altitude, airspeed, and related air data using digital and analog signal interfaces.

Piaggio Certifies IS&S Air Data Display Unit for RVSM Retrofit

Innovative Solutions and Support (IS&S), the Malvern, PA, USA-based supplier of cockpit data systems, has been selected by Industrie Aeronautiche Rinaldo Piaggio S.p.A., Italy, to retrofit the company's P180 Avanti business turboprop for reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) compliance. Key to enabling the P180 Avanti to meet new RVSM requirements will be installation of an IS&S air data display unit (ADDU). Piaggio is scheduled to begin OEM and retrofit installations in late 2001.

Off-the-Shelf Altitude and Cabin Pressure Alerter from IS&S Offers 3-Way Early Warning

To give pilots early warning of potentially dangerous cabin altitude and pressure conditions, Innovative Solutions & Support, the Malvern, PA-based supplier of cockpit data systems, has developed a dedicated solution - an off-the-shelf altitude alerter that is fully RVSM compliant and has already been field proven on all aircraft that require cabin pressurization. RTCA certifications include DO-160D (environment) and DO-178B Level D (software).

The unit issues three different types of warnings when sensed cabin altitude is at or above 10,000 feet (3,000 meters). It flashes cabin altitude on its liquid crystal display (LCD), it annunciates a caution light located within its integral push button, and it triggers audio alerts in the form of a warning message within the pilots' headsets as well as a Sonalert horn. Cabin altitude continues to flash until the altitude alerter's pushbutton is pressed or until sensed cabin altitude reaches 9,500 feet (2,800 meters).

The altitude alerter function has four user-selectable operating modes and inputs and displays the selected "go to" target altitude during altitude capture operation. The modes are: Altitude Alert, which annunciates conditions of approach to and departure from a user-selected altitude; Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA), which indicates approach to a user-selected minimum altitude; Static Air Temperature (SAT), which displays SAT; and Cabin Altitude, which indicates cabin pressure by displaying its equivalent altitude. Baro-corrected altitude and SAT data are supplied from the plane's digital air data computer (DADC) via ARINC 429. It computes cabin altitude (cabin pressure) using an integral pressure transducer. Altitude data is displayed in feet or meters.

The unit's pushbutton has multiple functions. It selects operating mode, cancels alert and fault indications, activates the indicator self test, and with the Target Altitude Adjust knob, selects audio alert type and adjusts volume. The Target Altitude Adjust knob is also used for setting the Alert Altitude/MDA mode target altitudes and the Altitude Capture mode selected "go-to" altitude, which is displayed in the upper portion of the LCD. The SAT and cabin altitude are displayed in the lower portion of the LCD.
